Why are we afraid of change?

Change is hard, different and new. Change makes you fear that you probably have to leave your comfort zone. So many of us struggle to change careers, move to a new city, end a bad relationship and even to interact with new people. Change is hard because we have made a perception of it as hard. Change – whether it’s a good or bad, it causes stress.

Change is a comprehensive term. It can cause stress, even when there is positive change. Sometimes negative change can also give positive outcomes. We never exactly know what we are going to get, which often threaten us. Instead of stressing about change, coping with it could be a better approach. Here are the five most common fears because of change:

Fear of New

People are afraid of new because they are too afraid of change. Instead of using the opportunity of life to live well, they choose to put themselves in cage and live an ordinary life. Like every other fear, this fear can also be overcome by trying new things in life.

Fear of Failure

This is the most common fear. Everyone at some point of their lives think they will fail and sometimes they do but this is not about stressing it and do nothing. It is about accepting it and no matter how many times you fail, you got to try again and again until you succeed. 

Fear of Pain, Discomfort, and Effort

It is reasonable to avoid these fears. But also these fears stop you to be the better version of yourself. They stop you from doing your best at work, eating healthy, and be nice to others. These are the hardest fears to overcome, but they are worthwhile.

Fear of Success

How is that even possible? Simple: Success comes with the responsibility. People starting pay more attention to you and you feel pressurized. This is the time when you should enjoy your success and believe in yourself, you have come this far but there are still a long way to go.

Fear of Criticism

No one likes to be criticized. Some people tolerate it better than others, but deep down we all try to tolerate it at best. When you try to do something new, something different, people criticize you for being different. This is the high time for you to prove yourself.

How to overcome your Fears

Fear is all in your mind, and to overcome it you have to face your fears. You have to show strength and overcome them one at a time. It can be hard but it’s well worth it. Start slowly, celebrate every small victory and soon you will find yourself above your fears and you will surely live a better life.
